The Vijay lab in the Engineering Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, always seeks to recruit talented, self-motivated individuals to work in the group and perform world-class research on additive manufacturing, bioprinting, tissue engineering and biomaterials.

Post-docs: Fully-funded post-docs are available based on the current project needs and funding. Specific openings are advertised on this page from time to time. Please contact Prof. Vijay (vs89@nyu.edu) with your curriculum vitae with full publication list, statement of research interests, and one or two representative publications. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Candidates with their own funding through fellowships or grants are welcome too.

PhD positions: PhD students get admitted through the Doctoral program of NYU Tandon School of Engineering, with full scholarship and a competitive stipend. Students are expected to spend at least a year in NYU at Brooklyn, New York before they relocate to NYU Abu Dhabi for 3 years of research. The PhD will be awarded from NYU. Applicants must submit a full admission application to NYU directly, and send a copy of the application along with your curriculum vitae with full publication list, statement of research interests, and one or two representative publications.

Visiting Researchers / Students: Visiting researchers and students with their own funding through fellowships or grants are welcome to contact Prof. Vijay to discuss about potential projects to work on.

Undergraduate Researchers: UG students who are interested in our projects from NYU, NYUAD, other NYU campuses, or from local universities in Abu Dhabi or the UAE are welcome to discuss any potential work in our lab for their capstone projects or during the summer time.

Post-doc Positions

Postdoctoral Associate - Additive Manufacturing

The Vijay lab in the Engineering Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate in Additive Manufacturing (AM) to work on the design, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), fabrication and characterization for projects related to the biomedical applications of Additive Manufacturing such as implants, prosthetics and tissue engineering scaffolds.

The successful applicant will drive a fascinating project on the emerging designs for AM such as lattice-based, Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces (TPMS)-based, auxetic-based structures for biomedical applications of Additive Manufacturing such as implants, prosthetics and tissue engineering scaffolds. The PI’s previous works has proved the versatility of these emerging designs in constituting a biomimetic architecture (i.e.) to mimic the native human tissue both in terms of structure and function. To get further insights, the candidate will be involved in developing several biomimetic designs (lattice, TPMS, auxetic structures) for specific biomedical applications including implants, prosthetics and tissue engineering scaffolds, finite element analysis of the designed structures to investigate the mechanical and fluidic (permeability) properties, fabrication of the structures using different additive manufacturing methods including Powder bed fusion, two-photon lithography, and Stereolithography, material characterization of the fabricated structures including scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Raman spectra, FTIR, etc. and mechanical testing of the fabricated structures including tensile/compression testing, hardness testing and dynamic mechanical analyzer. There will be a lot of learning opportunities on the job including use of several software and additive manufacturing machines and basic biological assays. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students and will interact with several scientists from other disciplines.

Applicants must have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Excellent software and experimental skills relevant to the project (in particular design and FEA software, additive manufacturing and material characterization) are required.

The terms of employment include highly competitive salary, medical insurance, housing allowance, and educational subsidies for children as well as other benefits. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, transcript of degree, and contact information of three references, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Vijayavenkataraman Sanjairaj at vs89@nyu.edu

Postdoctoral Associate - Bioprinting

The Vijay lab in the Engineering Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate in Bioprinting, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering to work on the development, characterization, and testing of biomaterials (polymers and hydrogels) for bioprinting of tissue constructs.

The successful applicant will drive a fascinating project on the advanced bioprinting strategies for the in vitro culture of cells and tissues. The PI’s previous works has proved the advantages of bioprinting over manual culture methods and the versatility of the process to fabricate a biomimetic architecture (i.e.) to mimic the native human tissue both in terms of structure and function. To get further insights, the candidate will be involved in developing several novel biomaterials including polymers and hydrogels with a broad range of mechanical and electrical properties and biological functionalities. Applications for these printed biomaterials will include bone, cartilage, nerve and skin tissue engineering.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Biomaterial (polymers) and bioink (hydrogels) development, preparation and characterization

  • Material and mechanical characterizations and testing

  • 3D Bioprinting of scaffolds and cell-laden hydrogels

  • Cell culture studies including viability, live/dead, PCR, immunocytochemistry, immunohistology, stem cell differentiation

  • Staining, characterization and microscopy of printed constructs

  • Analysis and interpretation of data, deriving meaningful conclusions

  • Writing project reports, grant applications, and journal/conference papers

  • Managing lab related activities (ordering consumables, planning various experiments in the lab, etc.)

  • Supervising and training students in the related field

The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students and will interact with several scientists from other disciplines.

Applicants must have a PhD in biological, chemical, or physical sciences, or biomedical/chemical/materials science engineering or related field with a specific focus on biomaterials, 3D printing / Bioprinting, or Tissue Engineering. Must have significant experience and demonstrated skills and technical expertise with development of biomaterials and bioinks, cell culture, stem cells, and biological assays. Knowledge of bioprinting is desirable but not mandatory.

The terms of employment include highly competitive salary, medical insurance, housing allowance, and educational subsidies for children as well as other benefits. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, transcript of degree, statement of research interests, one or two representative publications, and contact information of three references, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Vijayavenkataraman Sanjairaj at vs89@nyu.edu
